Step one
Measure your wrist
Wrap a tape measure, or a strip of paper you can mark and then measure, around the narrowest part of your wrist — just below the wrist bone, where the bracelet will sit. Note the number in centimetres.
Step two
Add 1–2cm for comfort
A bracelet measured to the exact wrist will sit tight and mark the skin. Add 1cm for a close fit or 2cm if you prefer it to move. A 16cm wrist usually takes the 17 or 18cm bracelet.
Step three
Going to add charms? Size up
Charms take up room on the chain and pull the fit tighter. If you plan to build the bracelet over time, take the next length up from the one you measured.
Looking after it
Silver tarnishes. That is not a fault.
Sterling silver darkens where it meets air and moisture — every solid silver piece does, and it is one of the ways you can tell it is not plated. It polishes straight back.
Take it off before swimming, showering or spraying perfume, keep it in the pouch it arrives in rather than loose in a dish, and buff it with a silver cloth when it dulls. Do that and it will look the same in ten years.
